Where The Wild Things Are

2018 Project

Where the Wild Things are was a project during my 2nd year at University. The project involved me re-imaging the classic children's opera 'Where the Wild Things Are' and creating a new concept for the costumes. The story highlights ideas such as not judging a book by its cover, that there is a wild thing in all of us and also that there is no place like home. However I believe that the driving force behind the story is the power of a child’s imagination. With this being said the concept behind my designs was to bring childrens toys to life in the form of the Wild things. All my wild things designs are a combination of toys and animals allowing the performance to entice a young audience. Within the costume designs of the characters, I created sensory elements such as texture, noises and interactive elements allowing the toys to be functional for the audience to engage with.
